This guide shows you exactly how to create a database, add a database user, and assign privileges — all inside your HostGrap cPanel account.

Prerequisites
- An active HostGrap cPanel hosting plan (Shared, Reseller, or Business Email + Hosting bundle)
- Your cPanel login details (sent in your welcome email)
Step 1: Log in to Your HostGrap cPanel
- Go to https://yourdomain.com/cpanel (replace yourdomain.com with your actual domain) OR
- Log in to the HostGrap Client Area → https://dashboard.hostgrap.com → Click Login to cPanel
Enter your cPanel username and password → Click Log In.
Step 2: Go to the MySQL Databases Section
In cPanel, scroll to the Databases section and click MySQL® Databases (or search for it in the top search bar).
Step 3: Create a New Database (Two Easy Ways)
Option A – Quick Method (Recommended for Beginners)
Use the MySQL Database Wizard (one-click flow):
- Click MySQL® Database Wizard
- Enter a name for your database (e.g., mywordpressdb) → Click Next Step
- Create a username (e.g., wpuser) → Generate a strong password → Click Create User
- Check All Privileges → Click Next Step
- Done! Your database, user, and privileges are ready.
Option B – Manual Method (More Control)
- In MySQL Databases, under Create New Database, type the database name → Click Create Database. (HostGrap automatically adds your cPanel username as prefix, e.g., yashas_mywordpressdb)
- Scroll to MySQL Users → Add New User
- Username (e.g., wpuser)
- Strong password (use the Password Generator)
- Click Create User
- Scroll to Add User to Database
- Select the user you just created
- Select the database
- Click Make Changes
- On the privileges screen, check ALL PRIVILEGES → Click Make Changes
Step 4: Note Down Your Database Details
You’ll need these for WordPress, Laravel, or any script installation:
- Database Name: yourcpaneluser_databasename
- Database User: yourcpaneluser_wpuser
- Database Password: The one you created
- Database Host: localhost
Copy these somewhere safe!
Common Tips & Best Practices (HostGrap Users)
- Always use All Privileges for WordPress/Joomla sites
- Create separate users for different websites (better security)
- Use the built-in Password Generator for strong passwords
- HostGrap plans include unlimited databases on most packages — check your plan limits in Client Area
- For reseller accounts: Your clients get the same easy database tools in their own cPanel
Troubleshooting
- “Access denied” → Double-check username, password, and that the user is added to the database
- Prefix missing? → That’s normal in cPanel (HostGrap adds it automatically)
- Need remote access? → Use Remote MySQL in cPanel (HostGrap supports it on request)
